The Joseph V. Cline Scholarship is the largest scholarship at the Community Foundation. It was created by James and Blanch Cline in 1968, and that trust was transferred to the Community Foundation on October 25, 1994.
The Clines created the scholarship to remember their son Joseph, also known as Joe, who was attending Indiana Univeristy-Bloomington and passed away at the age of 20 in a car accident in 1966.
The size of this renewable award grew significanly thanks to a generous and sizable bequest from the estate of Joe’s sister, Scarlett Cline-Goode, after her passing in 2004.
This award is divided over 4-years and given to a Madison Consolidated High School senior who made contribution to the student body and demonstrated school spirit. Since being endowed at the Community Foundation in 1994, the scholarship has awarded over $357,000 to local students.
