The first community foundation was established in Cleveland in 1914. Your Community Foundation is one of more than 700 community foundations in the United States. Indiana has the distinction that every county is served by a community foundation or affiliate fund. The community foundation model has spread throughout the world and has been called the fastest-growing form of philanthropy.
Your Community Foundation was established in 1991 by a group of local volunteers. It is governed by a board of unpaid volunteers from Jefferson County.
Since its birth, over 170 permanent funds have been established in the Foundation.
The Foundation has adopted the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations and the Ethical and Operational Standards for Indiana Community Foundations. These Standards ensure that the Foundation is governed and managed with great integrity.
