The Barbara Ann Cowan Memorial Fund was established in 2002 by her mother, Lee Anna Cowan.
During her life, Lee Anna worked for the former Conn Organ Co. as a key setter and was also a homemaker. She enjoyed working in her yard. Lee Anna wanted to create this fund as a way to remember her daughter, Barbara Ann, who had passed away a few years prior.
To do this, Lee Anna named the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of her will and chose to establish a Flexible Community Fund with the proceeds of the sale of her home. At the time of her passing, her attorney commented that choosing this type of endowment was all “Lee Anna’s idea and she was ‘tickled pink that she could do this.'”
Each year, grants from this fund are utilized in the Foundation’s competitive grant cycle process to help make a difference in Jefferson County.
