The Carol Stier Nowlin Scholarship was established by Josh and Barb Ford in 2021. It was created in honor of Barb’s mother, Carol Stier Nowlin.
Carol was the mother of five children when her husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with a terminal illness, and an incredible example of someone who believed in herself enough to overcome overwhelming circumstances. Carol chose to go to nursing school while caring for her children and her husband as his disease progressed. Carol received a small scholarship that paid for her books and helped her mitigate some expenses for school. She has always been grateful for the generous help, and wanted to give other women, especially single, head of household, and/or widowed women the opportunity to receive help with their educational goals.
With that in mind, each year, this scholarship will be awarded to an adult learner residing in Jefferson County, Indiana, wishing to further their education at any level.
