The Schroeder Foundation Endowment Fund has a long history of making an impact on Jefferson County.
John Benedict “Ben” Schroeder came to the United States in 1864 from Prussia. His family owned and operated the Schroeder Saddletree Factory for 94 years into the early 1970s. Ben’s son, Joseph, established the Schroeder Foundation organization through his will at his passing in 1972.
In 1994, the Schroeder Foundation transferred its assets to the Community Foundation. This endowment continues the family’s goal of helping charitable organizations that provide the “education, support, and maintenance of needy persons living in Jefferson County, without regard for race, color, or creed.”
