Women's Giving Circle History
Joining Together for Positive Change
The Women’s Giving Circle of Jefferson County (WGCJC) was launched in June 2012. Thanks to the commitment and work of twelve local volunteers, this exciting initiative has provided nearly $150,000 through grants to programs serving the women and children of Jefferson County, Indiana. Shaping the Circle
During her time on the Community Foundation of Madison & Jefferson County’s Board of Directors, Bonnie Hare helped to gather a group of women to create the Women’s Giving Circle of Jefferson County. Those women were the first Women’s Guiding Circle in 2012, and she was the founding President. After her term of service to the Guiding Circle ended, she continued to support the Women’s Giving Circle through her membership and volunteering her time. Bonnie passed away in August 2019 following a valiant battle against ovarian cancer.
To honor Bonnie’s commitment to the Women’s Giving Circle and to the community at large, the Women’s Guiding Circle and the Community Foundation Board of Directors approved renaming the Women’s Giving Circle Endowment to the Women’s Giving Circle Endowment in Memory of Bonnie Hare. “We are thankful Bonnie’s dedication and vision created a strong group of women who work together to improve our community,” said 2019 Women’s Guiding Circle Chair Elizabeth Auxier.
Bonnie served on the Community Foundation Board of Directors from 2010-2016. During that time, she held the offices of Secretary, Vice-Chair, and Board Chair, which she held from 2013-2014. She also served on the Marketing and Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship committees.
